When in the market to purcahse a new Spinning Reel for your bass set up, check out this page for the characteristics you should look for. Characteristics to Look For in Spinning Reels Once a bass fisherman has decided on what type of reel they figure is best for their type of action, the long process of looking for a reel begins. We have compiled a list of characteristics that we look for when we are purchasing or testing out spinning reels. 1) Action of the Ball Bearings: This is not essential to a rod, but is very desirable for ease of reeling, dependability, and reduced wear and tear within critical points of the reel. 2) Construction and Finish: A spinning reels should have a “solid feel” which shows it is constructed of high quality materials and has a good design. The reel should state that it is made of corrosion-resistant material such as anodized aluminum and stainless steel. 3) Bail: One of the utilized pieces of a spinning reel. It should be constructed of heavy gauge stainless wire and should click solidly into the open position and snap back sharply. There is a choice between an internal-trip mechanism and a bail closing system that simply knocks the bail when it has a specified projection. Bass fishermen are split on what type of bail they like. Some like the internal trip because it is quieter and closes more easily than with the external device. However the external trip is far more practical since it seldom goes out of whack which minimizes repair. 4) Line Roller: This should revolve easily which overtime will minimize line wear. This should be composed of corrosion resisted material such as anodized aluminum and stainless steel. One you purchase the reel remember to keep the line roller clean and lightly oiled in order for long term use. 5) Drag: A positive, smooth working drag is a necessity for spinning reels. The most popular type of drag offered on spinning reels is the multiple-disc setup inside the spool. The washers are place alternatively hard and soft in order for ease of control. |
