No matter what type of water you decide to fish in, we have some tips that will increase your total catch.


Lake, Pond, River, and Creek Fishing

Variety is the Spice is Life:

Due the composition of most lakes, there is usually one specific type of fish that is prominent. However with River or Stream fishing, you never know what will come a long and take your bait. To be successful in any type of fishing environment, make sure to bring and use different set-ups as well as a variety of bait.

Rule: When fishing in a river, creek, or stream, make sure your bait is in the “fish zone”, which is never more than a foot off the bottom of the river, creek, or stream.

Startling Fish:

When stream or creek fishing do not make a lot of noise while waiting into the water or walking along a bank. The reason for this is most fish see and feel the vibrations that most fishermen make. The best way to mitigate this is to walk slowly and quietly as well as make sure your clothing blends in with the surrounding.

Foam:

When looking for a good place to fish in a river or stream, don’t overlook the foamy patches of water surrounding exposed rocks or branches. These areas contain crippled minnows, insects, and other food and attract fish to feed in the location. To ensure the best results; Cast your lure or baited hook into the foamy part.

Weeds:

To minimize getting caught in the weeds, try a lighter line (less than 8lb of test) and rig up fine wire Aberdeen hooks. To add weight utilized a dropper rig.

Bait:

Take different types of live bait when preparing to go fishing. As we all know it is better to be prepared and land a fish than to come home empty handed.

Be Flexible:

Make sure you are mobile when tyring to find the perfect spot. As a day progresses, do not hesitate to try different parts of the lake, river, or pond. If things aren’t going your way think about moving to a new venue.

Rule:

Generally when fishing in the spring, smaller lakes are best for fishing since they warm up quicker than their larger counterparts, which results in more action. Always remember, the temperature of the water controls the spawning cycle of all freshwater fish.

Plants:

If it is early spring the best spots to look for are areas where aquatic plants are beginning to grow. These places always attract bait fish with in turn attract the fish we want. Usually plants like the cabbage plant will begin growing after a few consistent warm days. These places are perfect locations for bass fishing.

Spring is in the air:

Spring is one of the best seasons for fishing. The reason for this is most species of fish spawn during the spring which moves them into shallower water. Historically the best month during the spring is May. The reason for this is the days become increasingly warmer and longer which raise the water temperatures to a point where aquatatic plants begin to sprout. When this occurs, bass are on the beds close to shore and are easy to spot.

Dog Days of Summer:

Fish are harder to catch during the summer months since live food and underwater coverage are more abundant. Also fish become more selective when they feed, however when they feed they usually eat in mass quantities.

Times they are a Changing:

As the seasons progress a fisherman will realize that the great locations in the spring have become disappointing during the summer and fall. The reason for this is fish like humans, seek different surroundings at different times. The fish that you caught in the summer in the shallow waters, have retreated to the deeper cooler water in the summer. In the fall, most fish stay entrenched in the water as the winter months approach.

Fallow these Fall fishing Tips:

Here are some tips for one of the toughest fishing seasons;

1) Go with larger or bulkier lures and baits
2) Try different forms of live bait
3) Try different lakes, ponds, and streams
4) Change your line

Head of the Class:

If you catch a large trophy size fish, make sure you keep using the spot through out the year. The reason fro this is trophy fish stay in the best areas of the river, stream, lakes. If it is caught the next largest fish will move into the same spot.

New Kid on the Block:

When fishing a lake, pond, river or creek for the first time, be aware of any movements or tips that indicate a good fishing spot. Example of this are;

1) A fast moving boat that stops for its occupants to cast or drift.
2) Several boats anchored close to one another
3) People fishing on the shore near some reeds, lily pads, or weedbeds
