Fishing Line Tips

Don’t’ Break:
Make sure you change your line every few fishing excurstions or at least three times a season. The last thing you want to tell your friends and family is the one that got away…..

Walk the Line: Use these tips when dealing with your line and I promise you will not have any problems with your line snapping when that monster bass is giving you a fight.

1) Store line in a dark place under moderate temperatures.
2) Do not expose line to chemicals such as gasoline, which may cause it to deteriorate. ??? 3)? While fishing, check frequently for nicks and abrasion by running the last several feet of line between your thumb and fingers.
4) Clip off several inches of line and retie to the lure frequently, especially when fishing heavy cover or catching fish.
5) If a knot forms in the line, clip off the line above the knot and discard the line.
Replace the line on each reel when it shows signs of wear. (Buying line in bulk spools will avoid waste of excess line left on "filler" spools.)
6) I use Spiderwire Fusion 12 pound test, and I love it. The line is actually only 8 pound test size, so I get that bonus 4 pounds without the added thickness. Also, I love the sensitivity of the line. I feel every bite.
7) Monofilament can be damaged by excess exposure to direct sunlight. Keep your equipment in a dry, shaded area. Fishing on a hot summer day is fine. Keeping your rods in a hot car trunk, or exposed to direct sunlight in the back seat, is not recommended. Always use a well balanced outfit. This means the rod, reel, line and lure should be made for each other. Do not load a light outfit with a heavy line. Conversely, do not throw a huge lure with a light outfit.
8) Store all bulk line in a cool, dark place. Direct sunlight will damage monofilament over a period of time.
