White and Yellow Bass Tips

Where to look:

To locate white or yellow bass try drift fishing a baited jig in 7 to 15 foot depths. In rivers and streams, try rocky areas or below dams.

Recommended Lures:

Small spinners, streamer flies

Recommended Live Bait:
Minnows or other bait fish

Time of the year:

Spring- White and Yellow Bass are active and spawn in the spring when the water temperature reaches 55 to 67 degrees. The fish usually spawn in rocky parts of Smallmouth usually position themselves by the drop-offs of these areas. Try to use smaller lures and baits.
Summer- White and Yellow Bass move to shallow water since they are feeding on bait fish. At night or in the evening they move to the shallows since it is cooling off. The best times to fish is the morning or evening.
Fall- White and Yellow Bass move into deeper water in the fall months since this part of the water is the warmest.
Winter- Smallmouth are least active and move into the deepest parts of the area. During this time type feed mostly on schools of baitfish.
