However most fisherman have become used to the “jump fishing” method when dealing with brush piles and therefore have stopped utilizing brush piles for their full potential.. Once a fisherman gets underneath the pile they will find this area offers bass a relatively shallow area that provides a main food source as well as an easy escape to deeper water. Let’s face it only a few bass fishermen have the knowledge or the patience to review and dissect a brush pile. But keep in mind, the fishermen who do spend the time usually end their day with more larger and a greater quantity of bass. The best time to fish brush piles is pretty much anytime you are able to drop your line in the water. However any time around pre-spawn will give you the best results. Don’t let this bring you down if it is past pre-spawn. The best part about brush piles is that fishing these areas remains exceptional throughout the spawn and post spawn since waves of fish are moving in and out. Begin to think about fishing these areas when the water begins to warm. During this time the females begin to populate this area. Since the largest emails tend to spawn first they usually populate this area at the advent of the warmer temperatures. The locations the fish habitat are based on the clarity of th water. In muddy water they might be in brush 3-5 feet however in clearer water they might be as deep as 12 feet on the break line. Tips to fish these areas; 1) Cast beyond the brush pile to avoid spooking the fish 2) Retrieve the bait just under the surface until it is directly over the brush 3) Let the bait free fall right into the middle of the brush pile 4) If the fish does not hit the bait initially, swim your bait along the outlying branches. If you follow these steps you will achieve a certain level of comfort when dealing with this type of fishing. Always remember, as you have fine tuned you fishing patterns in different other areas, you need to put in the same effort on honing in on your brush fishing techniques. Lunker Man |
