In this article we discuss the increased popularity of lure eyes and the affect they have on catching a lunker bass.
Lure Eyes No matter if it is people, animals, birds, insects, or bass; the eye is a significant focus not only through internal seeing, but also seeing the surroundings. Under water bass like all predators focus on the eye of their prey before they strike. Because of this trait, manufactures have begun to recognize that lure eyes are a very important quality for all bass anglers since the bass can be fooled that the lure is actually real. The reason for this is the eye contributes to the lifelike illusion of a lure, particular in clear water. If the color of the eye is a triggering color such as red many anglers believe they get more hits off them. When you get a lure down in the fishing zone and leave it to a dead stop, fish get a very good look at it so the eye makes it more convincing. During the 1990's many Japanese manufacturers began to craft and enhance the eye on mass market artificial lures. By the mid 1990's this attention brought many different types of lure eyes from reflective, holographic, and even 3-dimentional ones. Now no matter where you go anglers see that eyes have become a strong selling point for the leading fishing tackle companies. Due to the increased popularity of eyes on slow moving lures, manufactures have begun to mold and include eyes on soft plastics. It has only been within the last decade that soft plastics have sprouted defining eyes of contrasting color. Now anglers can find eyes included in all different types of soft plastics to enhance their chances at a lunker bass. It is still up for debate on how many additional strikes a lure with realistic eyes can give a bass angler, however one this is for sure, realistic eyes are here to stay. |
